Hello! Here's what we're up to today:
Eng 11
1. Checking in.
2. Freewrite of ten minutes: Your grade is unique, in that it looks like you won't be writing the Eng 12 provincial, but also won't be writing the new literary assessment. In a freewrite, reflect on how you feel about this, and what changes to the system you hope to see in the future. Afterwards, share your thoughts with a partner, and if you're comfortable, with the class.
3. TED Talk: How to escape education's death valley (20 minutes)
4. Questions - have your answers prepared for next class. You may work alone or in groups - questions may be used in future quiz.
- What is your reaction to the video? Like it, dislike it - why?
- What is his main argument? What are your thoughts on this argument?
- What word best describes his tone?
- He says that in the right conditions, any school can flourish. Is Hamber a place that flourishes? How might we change the conditions to create a more vibrant learning environment?
- He notes that the best schools don't obsess over results. Do you agree with going in this direction?
6.
Next class, prepare for the novel study. We'll use remaining time to
discuss today's TED Talk further
