Hello! Here's what we're up to today:

English 10 - 1

a. Checking in.
b. Please note that I've added a "Course Objectives" section to the outline for the course.
c. Let's take a look at the unit outline and Project 1 details.
d. Poetry! How do we feel about it?

f. How to Read a Poem. Simplified:

1. Consider historical and biographical context of the poem.
2. Read through the poem once without worrying about "getting it." Offer an opinion.
3. Define hard words, and note any details that jump out at you: who the narrator is, any repetition, strong images, what the structure is.
4. Reread the poem (aloud is good), and offer a new opinion. What do you see now that you didn't before?
5. Double-check your task, and write your first thoughts.
6. Reread a third time, and note as many details relevant to your task as you can

g. Discussion: Do you think luck or hard work is more important for success in life?
h. "The Road Not Taken," a handout.
i. What literary terms can you find?
